A Super Puma L2 helicopter travelling from the Borgsten Dolphin rig crashes two mles north of Sumburgh, Shetland. Emergency services are scrambled to the scene, close to the rocks, where 15 people are rescued from the water. A search and rescue mission starts to look for the remaining three people.

Reports surface one of the 15 men rescued had died. Bond Helicopters announces it is suspending Super Puma flights. Two bodies are recovered from the water close to the wreckage
Police Scotland confirm four people had died in the crash.
The four victims are named as Duncan Munro, 48, from Bishop Auckland; George Allison, 57, from Winchester; Gary McCrossan, 59, from Inverness, and Sarah Darnley, 45, from Elgin. Press conference in Aberdeen hears it is too early to determine the cause. Search continues for the body of one remaining passenger. An Air Accidents Investigation Branch team travels to Aberdeen.
