The Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) committee of MEPs have an initial hearing on MiFID thus includes a speech from one of our European allies.

The petition was handed to Markus Ferber, who is the lead MEP on MiFID. Collected alongside allies it called for strong regulation and was signed by over 8,000 individuals across Europe.
This included strong wording requiring countries to use limits on speculation, known as ‘position limits.
These amendments call for further improvements to the proposals.
This is a step forward as the original text allowed countries to use position limits, but didn’t require them to.
